Platform: Bigcommerce
Role: Full-time SEO Specialist (Hired by Agency)
Client Type: E-commerce (Rifle Scopes)
Problem
The client, manufactures premium quick-detachable scope rings and firearm accessories. Their previous website was built on an outdated legacy platform that offered zero SEO capabilities, resulting in stagnant organic growth.
Issues included:
Legacy Tech Stack: The old site was slow, non-responsive on mobile, and impossible to update without code.
Zero SEO Visibility: The site had no keyword strategy, meaning it only ranked when users searched for the exact brand name.
Restricted Advertising: As a firearms accessory business, the client was heavily restricted from using Google Ads or Meta Ads, making Organic Search (SEO) their only viable growth channel.
Poor Site Structure: Products were buried in illogical categories, making it hard for crawlers and users to find specific mounts (e.g., "Ruger M77 Scope Rings").
The client needed a platform migration that prioritized speed and indexability over flashy aesthetics to capture high-intent buyers in a restrictive industry.
Challenges
Platform Migration Risks: Moving to BigCommerce required a flawless 301 redirect strategy to ensure the little authority the domain had wasn't lost during the transfer.
Ad-Block Industry: With paid ads largely off the table due to policies against weapon accessories, the SEO strategy had to work perfectly to drive revenue.
Technical Audience: The target customers are precision shooters and gunsmiths. "Fluff" content doesn't work; they need technical specs, torque values, and precise compatibility data.
Niche Keywords: High-volume keywords are rare in this niche. Success depended on dominating hundreds of "long-tail" keywords (e.g., "CZ 550 quick detach rings") rather than broad terms.
Scope of Work
Technical Migration & Speed Optimization
Platform: Migrated the entire catalog to BigCommerce, utilizing a lightweight Stencil theme.
Speed First Design: Intentionally avoided heavy JavaScript sliders and complex animations. Focused on raw HTML/CSS performance to ensure sub-1-second load times for rural customers on slow connections.
301 Redirect Mapping: Manually mapped every old URL to the new BigCommerce structure to preserve backlinks.
On-Page SEO & Collection Strategy
Keyword-Rich Collections: Created specific collection pages for every major firearm compatibility (e.g., "Ruger Scope Rings," "CZ Scope Rings," "Winchester Pre-64").
Content Injection: Added technical descriptions to the bottom of collection pages. This content targeted semantic keywords like "quick release," "return to zero," and "milled steel" without cluttering the shopping experience.
Product Schema: Implemented detailed product schema (structured data) so technical specs like "Ring Height" and "Tube Diameter" appeared directly in Google Search results.
Off-Page & Community Marketing
Forum Engagement: Since we couldn't buy ads, we engaged with communities on forums like AR15.com and Rokslide. We didn't just spam links; we provided helpful answers about scope mounting, naturally linking back to the relevant product pages as solutions.
Trust Signals: Highlighted the "Made in Alaska / Made in USA" value proposition prominently to reduce bounce rates from patriotic buyers.
Tools Used
BigCommerce: Core e-commerce platform.
Google Search Console: For monitoring indexation status post-migration.
SEMrush: For identifying long-tail compatibility keywords.
Screaming Frog: To audit redirects and ensure no broken links after the switch.
Forum Communities: Used for organic traffic seeding.
Outcome

The focus on technical speed and long-tail specificity paid off massively, effectively replacing the need for paid ads.
Explosive Organic Growth: In the last 16 months, the site generated 29.7K Clicks and 283K Impressions exclusively from organic search.
High Intent Traffic: Achieved an exceptional 10.5% Average CTR (Click-Through Rate). This is double the industry average, proving that the long-tail keywords we targeted matched user intent perfectly.
Traffic Trajectory: Organic traffic has grown consistently, reaching a peak of ~284 daily organic visitors by Nov - Dec 2025, with no signs of slowing down.
Top Rankings: The site now holds an Average Position of 11.7, with page 1 rankings for high-value terms like "Ruger quick detach rings" and "CZ scope mounts."
